A watchlist stays useful when it's actively separated from what you've already seen, and even more when part of it is filtered down to what you and a partner have both said yes to. Second, for couples specifically, having a smaller list of what you've both actually agreed on, which is almost always shorter and far more actionable than either person's full watchlist on its own.
Everything you've watched moves into your library, with your own rating if you want to give one, separate from your watchlist entirely. Your watchlist stays focused on what's still ahead of you, and within it, anything you and a partner both matched on is marked separately as ready to watch together, which is usually the shortest and most useful part of the whole list.
