A movie swipe app you can use by yourself matters because waiting for a partner to download an app, create an account and accept an invite is a lot of friction just to find out what to watch tonight.
You can start swiping in What's My Next by yourself, immediately, with no partner required. It builds your own watchlist and taste profile from that first swipe onward. Invite someone later and matching starts from what you've already rated, so nothing you did alone goes to waste.

An app that requires a partner before it does anything asks a lot upfront: your partner has to notice the invite, decide it's worth the download, and actually follow through. Plenty of good matches never happen because that first step stalls.
It also throws away a genuinely useful case: sometimes you just want to build a watchlist or get recommendations for yourself, with no matching involved at all.
From the first swipe, without inviting anyone, you're building your own watchlist and the app is learning what you like. Titles you swipe right go to your watchlist, left gets skipped, up means you've already seen it. All of that shapes your recommendations whether or not you ever add a partner.
