This Privacy Policy explains how What's My Next ("WMN", "we", "us"), based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, collects, uses and protects your personal data when you use our mobile app and website. We are the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / AVG). Questions? Email hello@whatsmynext.app.
The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking software. Our in-app usage statistics are first-party and stored only in our own database. Our marketing website (not the app) uses Google Analytics in aggregate.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers (processors) that handle data only on our instructions, under a data processing agreement:
To explain why a title fits you and to describe your viewing archetype, we send a limited summary of your taste to Anthropic's Claude. This summary includes your preferred genres, the names and ratings of titles in your library, your tone and pace preferences, your archetype text and, if you provided them, your age (derived from your birth year) and gender. It never includes your name, username or email address. Anthropic processes this data only to return the result and does not use it to train its models.
Your data is stored in the European Union (Supabase EU region). The only transfer outside the EU is the limited taste summary sent to Anthropic in the United States (Section 4). The United States does not have an EU adequacy decision, so this transfer is safeguarded by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with a data processing agreement. You can request a copy of these safeguards at hello@whatsmynext.app.
WMN is partly social, so some data is visible to others by design:
You control most of this with the privacy toggles in your profile (open / private profile, share ratings, share watchlist, who can comment).
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data is deleted from our systems (see Section 9). Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, export and restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email hello@whatsmynext.app. You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
You can permanently delete your account at any time from the app: Profile → Delete account. This removes your account and your associated personal data (profile, swipes, watchlist, ratings, reviews, comments, social connections and matches) from our systems. If you cannot access the app, you can also request deletion at whatsmynext.app/delete-account or by emailing hello@whatsmynext.app.
Push notifications are off until you choose to enable them. You can turn them off again at any time in your device settings, and inside the app you can also mute them with the notifications toggle in your profile.
WMN is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with an updated date and notify you in-app of significant changes.

Om uit te leggen waarom een titel bij je past en om je kijk-archetype te beschrijven, sturen we een beperkte samenvatting van je smaak naar Claude van Anthropic. Die samenvatting bevat je voorkeursgenres, de namen en beoordelingen van titels in je bibliotheek, je toon- en tempovoorkeuren, je archetype-tekst en, als je ze hebt opgegeven, je leeftijd (afgeleid van je geboortejaar) en geslacht. Ze bevat nooit je naam, gebruikersnaam of e-mailadres. Anthropic verwerkt deze gegevens alleen om het resultaat terug te geven en gebruikt ze niet om zijn modellen te trainen.
Je gegevens worden opgeslagen in de Europese Unie (Supabase EU-regio). De enige doorgifte buiten de EU is de beperkte smaaksamenvatting naar Anthropic in de Verenigde Staten (deel 4). De Verenigde Staten hebben geen EU-adequaatheidsbesluit, dus deze doorgifte is beschermd met de modelcontractbepalingen (Standard Contractual Clauses) van de Europese Commissie samen met een verwerkersovereenkomst. Een kopie van deze waarborgen kun je opvragen via hello@whatsmynext.app.
WMN is deels sociaal, dus sommige gegevens zijn met opzet zichtbaar voor anderen:
Het meeste hiervan regel je zelf met de privacyschakelaars in je profiel (openbaar / privé profiel, beoordelingen delen, kijklijst delen, wie mag reageren).
We bewaren je gegevens zolang je account actief is. Wanneer je je account verwijdert, worden je persoonsgegevens uit onze systemen verwijderd (zie deel 9). Back-ups worden volgens een roulerend schema overschreven.
Onder de AVG heb je het recht om je persoonsgegevens in te zien, te corrigeren, te verwijderen, te exporteren en de verwerking te beperken, om bezwaar te maken en om je toestemming in te trekken. Mail hiervoor naar hello@whatsmynext.app. Je kunt ook een klacht indienen bij de Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Je kunt je account op elk moment definitief verwijderen in de app: Profiel → Account verwijderen. Dat verwijdert je account en de bijbehorende persoonsgegevens (profiel, swipes, kijklijst, beoordelingen, reviews, reacties, sociale connecties en matches) uit onze systemen. Lukt het niet via de app, dan kun je verwijdering ook aanvragen via whatsmynext.app/delete-account of door te mailen naar hello@whatsmynext.app.
Pushmeldingen staan uit tot je ze zelf aanzet. Je kunt ze op elk moment weer uitzetten in je apparaatinstellingen, en in de app kun je ze ook dempen met de meldingen-schakelaar in je profiel.
WMN is bedoeld voor gebruikers van 16 jaar en ouder. We verzamelen niet bewust gegevens van kinderen onder de 16. Denk je dat een kind ons gegevens heeft gegeven, neem dan contact op en we verwijderen ze.
We kunnen dit beleid bijwerken. We plaatsen de nieuwe versie hier met een bijgewerkte datum en melden belangrijke wijzigingen in de app.
